Mandarin Hero is made by Nuli (nuli.nl). This policy says what the app collects, why, and what you can do about it. Questions: info@nuli.nl.
Your account. On first launch the app makes an anonymous account for your phone, with a random id and no personal details. If you sign up, we store your email address and a hashed password (never the password itself).
Your study progress. Your cards’ schedule, review history and settings are synced to our server, so they’re backed up and follow your account to another phone.
Purchases. Hero Pro is bought through the App Store or Google Play; we never see your payment details. RevenueCat checks your purchases for us, under your account’s random id, and receives the store’s purchase record (product, price, dates).
Blog emails. If you sign up for new blog posts on nuli.nl, we store your email address and the language you chose, and email you each new post. Every email has an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing stops them straight away.
Usage statistics. To see how the app is used and what to improve, Mandarin Hero sends anonymous usage statistics to PostHog (EU servers): which screens and features you use, study sessions, and your device type, OS, app version, language and approximate location (country and city, derived from your IP address, which is then discarded). For new users, the first session is recorded as a screen recording with all text and images masked. None of this is linked to your account or email. You can switch it off any time in Profile → Settings → Account → “Share usage stats”.
We don’t use advertising identifiers, show ads, track you across other apps, or sell or share your data with data brokers. The app doesn’t use your microphone, contacts or precise location. Study reminders are scheduled on your phone itself.
Each processes data only on our behalf.
Your account and synced progress are kept until you delete your account. Usage statistics are kept for up to one year and screen recordings for 30 days; they aren’t tied to your account, so deleting your account doesn’t remove them. Purchase records are kept as long as needed for the stores’ and tax rules. Blog sign-ups are kept until you ask us to remove them; after you unsubscribe, we keep only your address marked as unsubscribed, so it’s never emailed again.
You can delete your account and its synced progress at any time in the app (Profile → Settings → Account → “Delete account”) or by email, see Support. Under the GDPR you can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to stop processing it, by emailing info@nuli.nl, and you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Mandarin Hero isn’t directed at children under 13.
